Advance Trac with Roll Stabilty Control from Ford

Presenting Advance Trac with Roll Stability Control from Ford Motor Company.
• The system combines information from several sensors, including the steering wheel angle, lateral acceleration and yaw rate, to determine when the vehicle begins to lose directional control. So when you are a little overly zealous through the curves your vehicle will help save you from flipping. When the system senses wheel-slip or the loss of traction, it applies braking where needed to keep the vehicle tracking safely on its intended path. It is constantly checking your wheels something crazy like 60 times a second.
• Unlike competitor’s systems, the Ford-exclusive RSC system uses a second gyroscopic roll-rate sensor to accurately measure the vehicle’s roll rate. Using the roll-rate sensor, RSC can adapt the level of control to the loading conditions of the vehicle. If an unstable condition is anticipated, the system selectively applies individual brakes and modifies engine power to enhance vehicle roll resistance. Additionally, RSC uses the information from the roll-rate sensor to provide not only roll control, but enhanced side-slip control over competitors without a roll-rate sensor. This technology was launched nearly ten years ago. Ford is truly leading the way in safe SUV's. These three technologies are working together to address safe driving.

If you visit Gresham Ford on 242nd and Powell Blvd in Gresham you can see how the AdvanceTrac button on the instrument panel and how it provides the following electronic stability enhancement features for certain driving situations:
– Traction Control (TCS), which functions to help avoid drive-wheel spin and loss of traction
– Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which functions to help avoid skids or lateral slides
– Roll Stability Control (RSC), which functions to help avoid a vehicle rollover
With all this technology remember, you can't deny physics so drive safe.

Adaptive Cruise Control introduced by Ford

Presenting Adaptive Cruise Control from Ford Motor Company it provides everything conventional cruise control does — keeps a constant speed without having to work the brake or accelerator pedals — plus automatically maintains a comfortable distance from vehicles ahead. You choose from three different distance settings. It allows 3 unique Gap settings (Sporty, Normal, Comfort) — controlled through the steering wheel — to set the comfortable distance desired. It also uses advanced radar technology to scan the driving environment for slower vehicles ahead and slows the vehicle to adapt to the current traffic conditions. Once traffic clears, the system automatically returns to cruise Set speed and normal speed-control function. That's right, so when someone cuts in front of you going 10 miles less per hour the car will slow down maintaining your comfortable distance you set. When they change their mind and get out of you lane the vehicle will increase in speed and you never have to tap the brakes or reset the cruise control. How cool is that?

Visit Gresham Ford at 242nd & Powell Blvd or call 503-665-0101 or click www.GreshamFordOnline.com It has been Bess’s(General Manager & co-owner) passion to help local churches and charities. One way is though the Gresham Ford Tithe Back program. When a non-profit supporter gives us the opportunity to perform any service or repair work on their vehicle we will donate 10% of their bill, parts and labor, to their church, charity or non-profit of choice. We will also donate $100 for every vehicle a supporter purchases, and it doesn’t matter if it is new or used. Bess just asks that you not mention the $100 donation until after the purchase has been finalized. She would hate for anyone to think a donation was merely added in to the price.

The Ford Fiesta already is proving that it’s got the makings of a star, but now Ford’s new small car is serving as a vehicle to stardom for a few aspiring young artists. Three Fiestas are hitting the road with five young people in tow to promote Simon Fuller’s new reality show “If I Can Dream,” which follows the artists as they move to the Hollywood Hills looking for their big break.

The five artists include a musician, an actor, two actresses and a model, who will be mentored by the best in Hollywood while trying to make their dreams come true. All the while, their lives will be captured and streamed online in real-time, 24/7 on www.ificandream.com. It also will be available for TV viewers exclusively on Hulu, a Web site offering popular TV shows and movies from commercial networks.

Fiesta serves as the “sixth bedroom” of the show – it’s the artists’ primary way of transportation, and it is outfitted with three cameras so they can talk about their experiences through livestreaming.

Fiesta’s involvement with “If I Can Dream” builds on the success of the Fiesta Movement, a social media initiative that generated more than 6 million YouTube views, nearly 740,000 Flickr views and more than 3.7 million Twitter impressions.

Fiesta has it all – and more
Going on sale this summer, the all-new Ford Fiesta features an expressive, vibrant design, sharp reflexes, and a global track record that will redefine U.S. small car customers’ expectations. With 15 class-exclusive technologies and a projected best-in-class highway fuel economy of 40 mpg, Fiesta brings efficiency and convenience together in one package. Gresham Ford is excited to be accepting early orders with many extras for free when you order early.

It’s also designed to be versatile, personal and adaptable. In fact, Fiesta is expected to deliver best-in-class safety, convenience and connectivity with the segment-exclusive SYNC® voice-activated communications system, as well as an expressive color palette and available graphics.

Already more than 6,000 consumers have made reservations for the Ford Fiesta – half of them from non-Ford customers – and more than 100,000 handraisers are showing an interest in the new fuel-efficient car. Customers can begin placing their order for the new Fiesta today through Gresham Ford. You can choose the colors, equipment and options. 3.5L Eco-Boost Engine

Presenting
• Simply put, EcoBoost provides the fuel economy customers demand, with the performance they need — the power of a V8 and the economy of a V6
• Achieves the balance of power and economy through two key technologies:
– Twin turbochargers which provide power
– Direct injection which provides fuel economy and reduced emissions

Demonstrating
• Let customers feel the performance, then marvel at the fuel economy through a test-drive
• Take your customers through a situation using quick acceleration — like pulling away from a stoplight or passing another vehicle on a road. Let them feel the peak torque across a very wide engine speed range. Talk about its usable performance that’s available all the time. They won’t need to wind the engine out to get the performance out of it
• Paint a picture for customers. Have them think of the direct injection system like the mist from an atomizer bottle that you spray to keep yourself cool. EcoBoost creates a fine spray that atomizes the fuel, making it easy to ignite and burn completely

Delivering
• Inform customers that EcoBoost has been designed and tested for use without any special operating precautions. They don’t need to sit and idle before switching the engine Off. They don’t need to observe special oil-change intervals, and they don’t need special oil
• Be sure to tell your EcoBoost customers that direct-injection engines mechanically sound different than other gasoline engines. In certain environments, when standing outside the vehicle with the engine running at idle, you may notice a slight ticking sound. This is a normal operating condition for high-pressure, direct-injection fuel systems

Ford Fiesta follows the Truck of the Year

All-New Fiesta and
Transit Connect
Follow Global
Strategy
The Ford Motor Company
strategy for moving ahead
in the 21st century
can be summed up
in two words:
“One Ford.”
What Is “One Ford”?
The “One Ford” philosophy was developed
to create a more consistent and compelling
connection with customers worldwide, while
better leveraging the company’s global assets
and capabilities.
“The progress we have made in working
together to create a ‘One Ford’ global
enterprise during the past two years gives
us a unique competitive advantage in
today’s environment.” Ford President and
CEO Alan Mulally
So What Does
That Mean to the U.S.?
In simplest terms, it means this: In North America we will continue
to need and have great products specific to our market such as F-Series,
Fusion, Escape and Taurus. But what it also means is that in certain
segments where manufacturing efficiencies can be found, we will see
some of Ford Motor Company’s proven, global platforms come to the U.S.
Here are two key examples of “One Ford” at work:
The 2010 Transit Connect is designed
to meet the needs of small-business
owners with a combination of low
operating and ownership costs,
payload capacity and cargo space.
More than 600,000 Transit Connects
have been sold since 2003, in 58
countries on four continents.Fiesta, Ford’s new well-appointed
subcompact car, is creating
buzz and curiosity in a variety
of markets. This car has already
received rave reviews in Europe
and has recently entered the Asian
market. The U.S. version is slated
to arrive mid-2010.In early April, at the New York Auto Show, the first group of
Fiesta Movement “agents” was introduced to their specially
built Fiestas. This select group of 100 agents was selected from
a large pool of applicants that applied by submitting videos to
become a part of the Fiesta movement.
While at the show, some new agents were introduced to the
press. Each was on hand to talk about their impression of Fiesta
after their initial test‑drives of this exciting new, global car.
Following the New York Auto Show, other agents from around the
country took delivery of their Fiestas and, over the course of the
next several months, will take their cars on a variety of “missions,”
introducing the public to Fiesta. As part of the plan, each of their
missions will be recorded and posted to a variety of cutting-edge,
highly connected media like YouTube, Flickr and Facebook.

Designed for the specific needs of small-business owners, Transit Connect
can be customized for almost any job. Highlights include:
Purpose-Built

Fiesta Proves Itself

Fiesta has already received rave reviews in
Europe and Asia, and it’s scheduled to go
on sale in North America next summer.
Over the last several months, the
100 Fiesta Movement agents have
been spending a lot of time in their
cars out in public and online using
a variety of today’s media. What have
the agents discovered about Fiesta?
This car is ready to deliver on all fronts.
Here’s a sampling of their latest updates.

Stylish Inside and Out
Fiesta’s sleek design, attention to detail and use of
premium materials set it apart from other small cars.
It looks great with accessories too, for that
personal touch. Key features include:
• Available 4-door or
5-door configurations
• Chrome accents
• Aggressive low roofline
• New, vibrant exterior colors
• Edgy interior design that
features premium

Fiesta agent Hilary McHone put
more than 20,000 miles on her
Fiesta in the first three months
of her “missions.” Agents
Brad and Emma
took their Fiesta on
a 48-state tour …
comfortably in style.
Exterior Design
Fiesta agent Jonathan
Nafarrete photographed
Fiesta in front of some of the most creative and
colorful street art in and around Los Angeles.
Which was the work of art? It was honestly a toss-up.
Check out his video on fiestamovement.com;
select agent Jonathan N., and click on the
Style/Design mission to watch.

“Its peppy little 1.6-liter Duratec four-banger delivers
an acceptable 118 hp and 112 lb.-ft. of torque in
surprisingly smooth fashion for such a small engine,
but getting at that power is made all the more fun by
a lively five-speed manual with gears spaced just right
to keep you in the fat of the power band without
constant rowing.” — Natalie Neff, AutoWeek
Courtney Force, NHRA driver
and Fiesta Movement agent, was
impressed with the Fiesta technology
features, such as Push Button Start,
Bluetooth®(2) capability and voiceactivated
commands.
Fiesta is designed to meet safety standards
around the world. Key features include:
• Ford of Europe-developed
Intelligent Protection System
with up to seven airbags
• Frame is stiffer and lighter
than previous European model
• Up to 55 percent usage of
high-strength boron steel
Fiesta’s 118-horsepower 1.6L I-4 engine is
designed for power, fuel economy and low
emissions. It meets the demands of the
European and American markets for
well‑appointed, fuel-efficient vehicles.
Agent Seth Beck, aka “Fiestavus,”
reported average fuel economy in his
1.6L manual Fiesta of 32.1 mpg. His
best fuel economy was 38.1 mpg.
He also reported an average 275.5
miles per fill-up. Check out his stats at
fuelly.com/driver/fiestavus/fiesta.

Ford Fiesta Vs. Nissan Versa

Versa's larger 1.8L DOHC engine produces 122 horsepower and 127 lb ft of torque, but the Nissan is a larger, heavier vehicle than the Fiesta. The 2011 Ford Fiesta enjoys three key advantages: first, the effciency of the Fiesta's powertrain helps top another key competitor in the importnant area of fiel economy. The Fiesta gets an estimated 30/40MPG with the Automatic transmission. Whereas the Nissan Versa gets 28/34 with its automatic transmission.

The available PoweShift automatic transmission has been designed for efficiency. Its lighter because it uses no pumps or hoses and its dual internal cluthes optimize responsiveness. Its estimated 21.6 weight to power ratio for the 5 door automatic transmission hatchback. A lower weight to power ratio results in better performance and fuel economy.

The class-exclusive standard 1.6-liter twin-independent variable cam timing (Ti-VCT) Duratec® I4 Engine is engineered for quick sprints and to go the distance.* When paired with the available PowerShift six-speed automatic transmission, it is projected to achieve best-in-class highway fuel economy of 40 mpg.**

*Class is Subcompact Cars vs. 2009/2010 competitors. **SFE Package. Ford preliminary test data. Pending EPA certification. Class is Subcompact Cars vs. 2010 competitors.
The available class-exclusive PowerShift six-speed automatic provides torque to the wheels 100 percent of the time, for an extra-connected feel.* It’s equipped with a leak-free dry clutch technology and a neutral idle mode that helps eliminate drag and contributes to fuel efficiency. It’s also maintenance-free – with a fill-for-life transmission fluid that requires no dipstick – and designed to last up to 150,000 miles.

Ford Fiesta has Technology Advantages

The 2011 Ford Fiesta has Sync which includes voice-activated communications and entertainment system with 911 Assist, Vehicle Health Report and Traffic, Directions and Information services. This includes turn by turn navigational assistance. •New “911 Assist” feature will help quickly connect vehicle occupants directly to a local 911 emergency operator following an air bag deployment in a SYNC-equipped vehicle – with no monthly fees. Click Here to see a short video about the Vehicle Health Report.

Ford Traffic Direction and Information System or TDI has a lot to offer over competitors.
•Current owners of early-launched 2010 vehicles equipped with Ford SYNC now can visit www.syncmyride.com and download and install the latest application – Traffic, Directions and Information (TDI) – at home for no additional cost
•SYNC TDI connects a customer’s Bluetooth-enabled cell phone to Ford’s Service Delivery Network voice portal delivering turn-by-turn driving directions, real-time traffic, business searches and favorite news, sports and weather – all through simple voice commands
•Eligible customers can download this latest SYNC application similar to the way they would download a song from an online media store such as Apple’s iTunes
•TDI will be available on all 2010 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles equipped with SYNC, including the all-new Ford Taurus, which arrives in dealerships this summer
•SYNC, when available as an option, retains its retail price of $395, and includes a GPS receiver new for the 2010 model year; TDI services come with no monthly subscription fees for the first three years of vehicle ownership

The 2010 Nissan Versa offers a $980 Premium Package on the SL Hatchback and a $650 Convience Package on SL Sedan, which includes among other features, Bluetooth and an Intellegent Key system. A navigation system, which is packaged with SIRIUS and a USB port the retails for $610 and is offered is offered on SL. The Push Button ignition (start and stop engine with the push of a button). It’s nothing ground breaking, but it’s certainly unique in an affordable car. The system also allows you to lock or unlock the doors and open the trunk, all with the push of a button on the door or trunk. Note: You have to have the “intelligent key” on you (in your pocket for example) for all of this to work. At first I thought it was just plain cool, and I still think that, but over time I’ve realized it’s as much about convenience as it is about being unique. I never have to fumble with anything I’m carrying while I find my keys.

The Ford Fiesta's entertainment center, voice activated communications, 911 Assist, Vehile Health Report and Traffic Directions and Information system show off Ford's commitment to the Technology progression of the auto industry. In Portland Oregon and SW Washington area Gresham Ford has emerged as a leader. Gresham Ford will be offering pre-sale order opportunities for the 2011 Ford Fiesta. The factory has recently announced many extras for ordering your Ford Fiesta early.

Thank you Mark-Lori-John

Wednesday’s editorial in the Outlook is what I and many other business leaders have tried to say but Mark does such a better job. Guess that is why he is a “publisher” of a great local newspaper and I sell cars and trucks. Anyhow he points out how businesses and business people are the backbone of so many local causes, education programs and charitable endeavors. He discussed the upcoming Gresham Barlow Education Foundation’s Phon-A-Thon, as he said this is something that we can all support – a bunch of small contributions end up helping young people learn to read and there is nothing more important than that!

Another thanks to our local “Phone Guy”, John Eisel he personally went around to all his clients and collected boxes (too many to count) of phones to be given to our “Phones for Soldiers Program”. The phones will be refurbished and with the proceeds phone cards will be given to our soldiers overseas. Give John a call and thank him 503-901-0374, I also highly recommend him for all your cell phone needs!

2011 Super Duty Revealed

A number of features work together to make this Super Duty® extremely quiet, both inside and out, by reducing wind, road and powertrain noise.
• Quiet diesel engine is the result of fine tuning to reduce diesel combustion noise and to ensure quiet, smooth operation at high and low speeds
• Class-exclusive(1) Quiet Steel®(2) dash panel — composite laminated steel sheet works with extra sound padding in the dash and floor to provide a foundation for the quiet cabin
• Sound-damping back panel improves occupants’ ability to carry on a conversation
• Expandable “gull wings” inside the fenders just in front of the doors, work with the Quiet Steel(2) dash panel to reduce unwanted road and wind noise
• Thick side glass helps minimize wind noise
• Climate control system design reduces number and size of openings in the bulkhead, improving interior quietness
• Improved instrument panel seal helps reduce powertrain noise
• Exhaust system design is tuned for refinement with a robust, tough truck sound

(1) Class is full-size pickup trucks over 8500 lbs. GVWR.
(2) Quiet Steel is a registered trademark of MSC.
6.7L Power Stroke® V8 turbo diesel testing is a reflection of Ford’s commitment to engineer and build this all-new diesel engine “in-house" and to meet the needs of the Super Duty® customer.
250,000-mile durability testing is designed to identify structural fatigue points of the powertrain components by simulating the driving habits of Super Duty® customers who tow heavy loads. Test engines spend 1,200 hours at peak torque to test the strength of the engine’s internal rotating parts.
Thermal cycle testing stresses the cylinder head gaskets, engine sealing and cooling system connections. Engines are idled, run at peak power until components are red hot, then shut off and allowed to soak while 16-degrees-below-zero Fahrenheit coolant is pumped through the engine. The process repeats over and over for 150 hours.
Structural testing is run to verify design parameters including assessment of the effect of design tolerances. Engineers build engines with tolerance-limit parts to simulate potential quality issues before they happen to the customer. Real-world wear testing simulates the operating conditions of 250,000 miles over the toughest grades in temperatures ranging from 40 degrees below zero to plus 130 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s the equivalent of 10 years in service.
Turbo-boost gauge lets the driver know the turbo-boost from the diesel engine is within the proper levels.
Engine hour meter in the Message Center indicates the number of hours the engine has been in operation. This is an especially useful feature for proper vehicle maintenance. Standard on all models.
Fail-safe cooling system allows the 6.2L V8-equipped vehicles to continue operating with limited engine power if coolant is lost. This lets the driver reach a service facility if the engine overheats.(1)

(1) Distance traveled depends on vehicle load, terrain and outside temperature.

The New and Improved Taxi is here!

Taxis are getting progressively eco-friendly through the embrace of more fuel-efficient, zero-emissions technologies, which is great for fleet operators, passengers and pedestrians alike. Ford Motor Company, the leader in the North American taxi market, is enabling that trend to continue with its Ford Transit Connect Taxi, which is currently available at Gresham Ford.

The roomy, flexible interior of the Transit Connect – the 2010 North American Truck of the Year – is perfectly suited for taxi service. The vehicle’s 135 cubic feet of cargo space accommodates a compressed gas tank while leaving ample passenger legroom and cargo capacity. With 21 MPG in the city and 25 on the highway this is a highly economical vehicle for Oregon and Washington.

And eleven minutes ago Ford released this press release -
Ford Motor Company is unveiling the all-electric version of the Ford Transit Connect at the Chicago Auto Show; the small electric van will be in fleet operators’ hands later this year, according to the company. The 2011 Transit Connect Electric will use a Force Drive electric powertrain manufactured and integrated by specialty upfitter Azure Dynamics. (Earlier post.) The vehicle is powered by a liquid-cooled 28 kWh lithium-ion battery pack from Johnson Controls-Saft. (Azure Dynamics and Ford both currently use Johnson Controls-Saft battery technology for other products as well.)

Ford also announced that the Ford Transit Connect Taxi will go into production and arrive in dealerships later this year as a 2011 model. Ford will introduce engine prep packages on all Transit Connect models—base and taxi—allowing conversion to compressed natural gas (CNG) or propane (LPG, or liquefied petroleum gas) of the 2.0-liter Duratec engine.

Electric Transit Connect. System voltage range is 260 - 380 V. The electric powertrain includes:

•Siemens model 135, 300V 3-phase AC liquid-cooled induction motor, 158 Nm continuous, 235 Nm peak
•Borg-Warner 31-03 single speed transmission, gear ratio 8.28:1
•28 kWh, 16-module (192 cells) JCS Li-ion pack
•Pack voltage range 215 - 390 V, 3.3 kW charger
•TDK, 100A output DC/DC converter
The electric van will accelerate at approximately the same rate as the gas-powered Transit Connect and will have a top speed at 0% grade of 75 mph (121 km/h), with a targeted range of up to 80 miles (129 km) on a full charge.
Owners will have the option of recharging the Transit Connect Electric with either a standard 120V outlet or preferably a 240V charge station installed at the user’s base of operations for optimal recharging in six to eight hours. A transportable cord that works with both types of outlets will be available for recharging at both kinds of locations.

Both the Transit Connect Electric and its gasoline-powered twin offer:

•135 cubic feet of cargo volume with 59.1 inches of floor-to-ceiling load height and 47.8 inches of load width between the wheel arches
•72.6 inches of load space
•Split rear cargo doors that open at a standard 180 degrees, or an optionally available 255 degrees
•Lift-over height less than two feet when the vehicle is unloaded
•Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering allows a 39-foot curb-to-curb turning circle for maneuverability in tight urban spaces
The vehicle has a projected life of 10 years/120,000 miles. A 5 year/60,000 mile warranty covers the Azure powertrain and modified components.
In addition to the Transit Connect Electric, Ford plans to bring three more electrified vehicles to market by 2012 - the Focus Electric in 2011, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in 2012 and a next-generation hybrid in 2012.

The Transit Connect Taxi’s cargo area accommodates compressed natural gas tanks directly behind the second-row seat, still allowing ample luggage storage. Click to enlarge.

Ford Transit Connect Taxi. The Transit Connect’s 135 cubic feet of cargo space accommodates a compressed gas tank while leaving ample passenger legroom and cargo capacity.

While meeting with taxi operators in cities throughout the US, we found considerable interest for vehicles that run on alternative fuels. The Transit Connect Taxi, combined with an engine modified by Ford to use CNG/LPG, is designed to meet that need. This marks a new era in ‘green’ transit.

Transit Connects Everywhere

The transit connect is a all new model for the 2011 Ford model year. Cars.com wrote this article:
By Scott Burgess
Detroit Newspapers
September 3, 2009

The recession is over, and I've got proof.

While many "experts" will point to the GDP, unemployment figures and the trade deficit, I'm more of a believer of those tangible products that predict our nation's financial plight. Sales of cardboard boxes, diamonds and lipstick have been monitored in the past and could work today.

Future economic soothsayers will gaze into their Magic 8 Balls and use the Ford Transit Connect sales numbers as a barometer of the nation's small business health. To paraphrase a different auto exec from a different time: What's good for small businesses is good for the country.

Who knew the U.S. economic engine was a little 2-liter four-cylinder? But the 2010 Transit Connect's four-banger can handle the load, 1,600 pounds at a time.

While the exterior has the utilitarian styling of an airplane's chock block, this vehicle is packed with infinite purpose. The Transit Connect is European chic with a Puritan work ethic. It's been a mainstay in Europe since 2003 and after selling 600,000 of them, Ford Motor Co. finally decided U.S. small businesses might need some help.

It starts at $21,475 (including shipping) -- though even fully outfitted with high aftermarket customization, the price is not likely to cross $30,000. Offering two, four or more seats, the Transit Connect provides business owners with what they want.

When Ford introduced the Transit Connect to the U.S. media last year, the company showcased different versions and showed how the vehicles could be transformed into speedy suites and rolling billboards. They can deliver everything from azaleas to X-ray machines or become mobile workshops for electricians, mechanics or just about anyone else. Imagination is the only limit.

During the recent Woodward Dream Cruise, I tried to convince my editors to use a Transit Connect as a mobile newsroom. Some scoffed -- but just wait. It's a folding table top, desk chair and Wi-Fi connection away from replacing my desk on West Lafayette.

Two aspects make the Transit Connect work so well: capabilities and performance.

Any business owner can tailor the Transit Connect to fit his or her needs exactly. That could mean a few more deliveries every day because of the 135 cubic feet of storage space. The storage area is 59 inches tall and the low floor means it is easier to load.

Currently, there is no direct competition to the Transit Connect, at least not in the U.S. No doubt, there will be in the future. As smooth as it is useful

Versatility is one thing, but the Transit Connect also offers a good ride. The 2-liter engine provides 136 horsepower and 128-pound-feet torque. It's not quick and no race car attributes come to mind behind the wheel of the Transit Connect, but it always gets the job done. The four-speed automatic transmission whines a little more than I liked, but fewer gears helped keep power at the wheels instead of having the transmission hunt too long.

Getting onto the highway is easy and the Transit Connect stays with the flow of traffic without overworking itself.

Even with the high roofline, the Transit Connect handled corners and city driving particularly well. The power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering was easy to turn and the vehicle was easy to maneuver (though I would suggest including the optional back up camera). It has 39-foot curb-to-curb turning, which is the same as the 2010 Ford Taurus. It's easier to maneuver than bigger vans or pickups and a novice could master it quickly -- another factor for small businesses, no doubt, to consider.

It comes with anti-lock brakes and roll stability control. All the while, the Transit Connect gets 22 miles per gallon in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. Stripped down, all business

The interior feels much more workman-like than luxurious, but I expected that. My test vehicle was a basic five-seater; there's no reason to have pleated leather door inserts or Alcantara roof liners.

If the military used the Transit Connect, officers wouldn't drive it, sergeants would; so this truck needs to know to how work for a living. Maybe in a few years, after the Transit Connect grows in popularity, Ford can build the King Ranch Transit Connect but for now, the Blue Oval's Transit Connect is strictly blue collar.

Ford gives this vehicle everything it needs. There's a big storage shelf that stretches across the front, above the driver. It creates purpose out of dead space and for small businesses, every bit helps.

The driving position is upright and helps keep you fresh during a day of heavy hauling. The dash is well laid out and caters to the driver.

The sliding second-row doors are also an excellent feature, providing lots of room for ingress and egress, as well making it easier to park in tight spaces and still have space to open up.

The double barn door style rear doors also open in tight spots and can include the optional 225 degree opening, meaning they can open up and become almost flush with the side of the vehicle.

Then there's Ford Work Solutions, such as Tool Link and Crew Chief.

Tool Link uses RFID tags to take instant inventory of the equipment in the vehicle and immediately alert the driver if everything needed for a job is loaded. It can also check at the end of the day to make sure a worker brings everything home.

Crew Chief allows the boss to monitor the location, speed, idle time, fuel usage and 30 diagnostic measures of vehicles on the road.

The tool can help save costs and assists with good preventative maintenance.

The Transit Connect started rolling into dealerships in July, and Ford sold 417 of them. In August, it sold more than 2,220.

Yes, times are tough, but judging by my revolutionary Transit Connect economic predictor multiplied by the spirit of small business owners, the outlook is improving. The recession may not be over, but its end is near.

We can find our own bootstraps -- the Transit Connect just gives people a reason to pull a little harder.

Ford will Rock the Rally World

It was a shock to the off-road racing world when superstar Ken Block announced that he would be leaving his successful Subaru team to get behind the wheel of the new Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus rally cars. Come see the new Fiesta at Gresham Ford today! The Fiesta was heavily hyped leading up to the 2010 Detroit Auto Show and the new compact was well received in sedan and coupe version. Come see what all the hype is about. Visit www.GreshamFord.com to see our online inventory of new Ford Fiesta's. They even had a dressed up Fiesta to show off the sport compact potential of their new small car.

This past Saturday brought us the debut of the Ford-Block partnership in Atlanta, Michigan and while Ford built this up to be the introduction of a prosperous new race team – things didn’t work out as planned. First, the unseasonably warm weather caused much of the snow to melt, followed by a cold snap that turned the race course into a sheet of rough ice. Ford is gaining respect in this arena.

Block’s Monster Energy Drink sponsored Fiesta came storming out of the gate, leading after the first stage by almost 5 seconds. During the second round, the team of Block and Alessandro Gelsomino dropped to third place behind ex-teammate Travis Pastrana in a 2010 Subaru STi and the 2009 Mitsubishi Evolution X piloted by Antoine L'Estage although the Fiesta was only around 6 seconds out of first and less than a second out of second place. During the third round, Pastrana’s Subaru expanded the lead to almost 20 seconds over the second and third place entries although Block’s Ford had closed the gap to second to just 2 tenths of a second.

Unfortunately, during the fourth round Ken Block’s 2011 Ford Fiesta suffered suspension failure, although that news hasn’t been mentioned much on a variety of websites including the Monster World Rally Team website and Ford’s media site.

It was a shock to the rally racing world when Block left Subaru for the new Ford Racing team and failing to finish his first event after leading early in the event had to have been a disappointing outcome. Making the matter worse was the fact that Block’s former teammate Travis Pastrana ran away with the event – winning with a minute and a half lead over the second place Mitsubishi Evolution X and the third place Evolution IX.

Ken Block’s new Ford Fiesta rally car will be back on the track in late February as the series heads to Salem, Missouri. Check out the links below for the Sno*Drift website, as well as the Monster team’s site and a video of Block testing his 2011 Fiesta before the event last weekend. Also, for those who haven’t gotten a good look at the 2011 Ford Fiesta rally car, check out the Gresham Ford facebook page to see lots of interior and exterior photos. Ford is now offering $1000 trade in incentive rebate when you trade in a Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Scion or Acura on any new Ford car, truck or SUV. At the International Auto Show this year the Ford Fusion was voted the "Car of the Year" and the Ford Transit Connect was voted the "Truck of the Year" by the gurus of the Auto Industry. Locally our Dealership was voted as having the "Reader's Choice" (Gresham Outlook) Auto Sales Professional of 2010 and as having the "Reader's Choice" Mechanic. In addition, our Parts Manager is always in the top five in the Northwest out of over 140 Ford Dealerships. Our Customer Service Scores are always some of the highest the State but the way I know our customers are happy are all the cards and letters we get from happy customers - they have told me our staff have saved their vacations by getting them back on the road in record time, they have told me how our sales professionals have gone above and beyond to earn their business. Visit us and judge for yourself - they are the best!!
