How do you top the industry’s leading police car? The Ford Crown Victoria has held that title for 15 years. In 2011 the Crown Victoria will be removed from the line-up of Ford Special Service Vehicles. It will be replaced by the all-new Ford Police Interceptor, engineered to exceed durability, safety and performance over the current Police Interceptor.
The all-new Police Interceptor is designed to handle the rigors of police work, including industry-leading power train, safety and technology innovations. Ford will also add a second Police Interceptor to the lineup, a utility vehicle to provide customers a choice of the best vehicle to suit their needs. Many municipalities have purchased Ford Expedition Special Service Vehicles from Fleet Manager, Annette Wetzel-Ramirez because the vehicle simply meets their needs better than the Crown Victoria.
Many fleets who experimented with the Dodge Charger have found that the vehicle has much higher maintenance costs. For example changing the oil in a CVPI would cost you about $25 however to change the oil in a Hemi powered Dodge Charger the cost is about $75, simply because the Hemi engine uses far more oil. With oil prices increasing many fiscally conscience municipalities are choosing to leave the Dodge Charger behind.

The all new Police Interceptor has truly answered the public sector’s needs. To develop the all-new Police Interceptor, Ford engineers worked hand-in-hand with Ford’s Police Advisory Board of law enforcement professionals, which provided input on key vehicle attributes such as safety, performance, durability, driver comfort and functionality. The advisory board uses fleet managers to road test the vehicles performance, look and space inside to make it the best vehicle possible.

Currently, the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor is the only pursuit sedan to meet this test. The new 2012 Police Interceptor also features Ford’s exclusive Safety Canopy side-curtain air bag rollover protection system to help protect front and rear outboard passengers in both rollover and side-impact crashes. The multiple side-curtain air bags use Ford’s unique Roll Fold technology to help them slip between the occupant and the side window. A highly efficient 3.5-liter V6 engine delivering at least 263 horsepower and E85 compatibility is 25 percent more efficient than the 4.6-liter Single Overhead Cam (SOHC) V8 offered in the current Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. Plus, an all-new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 twin-turbocharged, direct-injection engine will deliver at least 365 horsepower and 350 ft.-lb. of torque across a broad rpm range. This will help the zero to sixty capacity of the 2012 Police Interceptor. EcoBoost brings municipalities and police fleet administrators the first ultra high-performance, yet environmentally friendly, police pursuit vehicle. Gresham Ford Fleet Department will share the benefits of this technology with the Oregon and Washington municipalities. Offering performance that bests normally aspirated V8 powered police cruisers and comparable fuel economy and CO2 emissions to the standard V6, EcoBoost represents a triple-win for police departments, the tax-paying constituents they serve and the environment they help collectively to preserve. A high-capacity six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission delivers the power of EcoBoost to the road via the sophisticated torque-sensing all-wheel-drive system.
