Ready, Aim, Shoot!

No we’re not going deer hunting, we are going picture hunting.  Yes, a picture is worth a thousand words and tomorrow all of us get a chance to become professionals with our cameras, phones or whatever you use to take your pictures. Some of us even know what film is (funny there is a whole generation that doesn’t). “The Picture Your Parks Photo Contest” is a fun way for the community to engage and experience our local Park System.  However, the big deal is that the picture must be taken between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and
10:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2010.  Yes, tomorrow. So start planning now! Photos must be recognizably in Gresham and taken within the Gresham Park system (you would be surprised how many locations there are that qualify – go to the City of Gresham’s Web Site for the location of all parks, trails and natural areas!).  This is about nature and our parks. So photos that have been digitally altered beyond basic
cropping, exposure and color adjustments will be disqualified. So there is no taking 20 lbs. off the park.
Again, go to the City of Gresham website for details. You have from dawn to dusk tomorrow to take
pictures of whatever you see that tells the park story you most want to tell – from wildlife and playgrounds to
graffiti and litter. It is y our story to tell – so channel your inner Ansel Adams and shoot!  See you out there – maybe I’ll get a picture of you taking a picture of me!

Gresham Ford Brings Cruise Oregon and My Fathers House Together

Gresham Ford hosted a Hoe Down BBQ for the 2010 Cruise Oregon car club on July 9th 2010. The Car club cruises around Oregon, Washington, Idaho & sometimes California and takes a road trip once per year as a club and chooses a charity to donate to during their trip with a dinner, games, and other ways of making money for the chosen charity.

Gresham Ford and Cruise Oregon used this BBQ as a benefit dinner for My Fathers House which is a local shelter for homeless family's and the charity that was chosen as this year's benificiary. We should had approximately 250 people attending with about 100 cars or so including the new 2011 Ford Fiesta.  The Chris Loid Band played some good country music to set the mood.  Live music, sunshine and cars - what more could a City of Gresham resident ask for?  We also put together 100 plus goodie bags for each Crusie Oregon car so that each participant gained a little more knowledge about the new 2011 Ford Fiesta available at Gresham Ford as well as My Fathers House.  This was a very exciting BBQ planned to bebefit the community at large. This benefit kicked-off the annual 2010 Cruise Oregon. It’s a 1280 mile loop that takes an estimated 200 classic car participants to explore the fabulous and diverse beauty that is uniquely Oregon.
We would like to invite you to become a partner with My Father’s House by being an in-kind donor for this special event. All donors will be recognized in our program, press releases and on our website. In addition we would include any promotional items or coupons in the 250+ goody bags given to Cruise Oregon participants. This year’s event will be held on Friday July 9th at 5:00 pm at Gresham Center for the Arts Plaza.
For numerous reasons, these families have ended up at the bottom of the well of hopelessness. If you have been there at any point in your life, you know what an awful place ‘hopelessness’ is. Our goal is to help families stay together while working on their issues together.  This year our goal is to raise $5,000 in gifts and pledges to benefit My Father’s House. From the very beginning nearly 10 years ago, our hope was to have ten thousand people give $10 per month. We aren’t quite there yet, but we believe that we can do this together.  For four years, Karl & Mary Wescott (Wescott's Auto Restyling) led the Northwest leg of the Americruise. From that experience, Mary had a spark of an idea… to explore the fabulous and diverse beauty that is uniquely Oregon. A 1280 mile loop that would take most participants no more than a day away from home. She asked if the Route 26 Cruisers was interested in running with her idea… and we jumped at the opportunity to organize and lead this great tour!

"Cruise Oregon" was born in 2001, and the participants have traveled throughout the states of Washington, California, into Idaho, and even Canada! We have had participants from 11 different states, and it continues to grow. The 2005 cruise had 165 classic cars participate with ice cream socials, events in the towns that we visited, and a week of good fun, friends, and cars! The cruise is a one week event that covers up to 1200 miles, with a different route every year.

Ford Leads Detroit 3 quality gains over rivals, J.D. Power says

Ford leads Detroit 3 quality gains over rivals, J.D. Power says by David Phillips in Automotive News for June 17, 2010 DETROIT -- Detroit's automakers -- helped by Ford Motor Co. and some of the smoothest new-model launches ever -- have matched or surpassed Asian and European rivals in initial vehicle quality for the first time, based on a closely watched survey released today. For the 2010 model year, General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Group averaged 108 problems per 100 vehicles, compared with 109 problems for every 100 Asian and European vehicles, J.D. Power and Associates announced at an Automotive Press Association luncheon here today.

Models such as the Ford Focus, Ford Fusion, Ram pickup and Buick Enclave helped drive Detroit's gains for 2010, the market research firm said. Dragged down by Toyota Motor Corp., the overall quality of new cars and trucks sold in the United States slipped slightly this year -- the first time since 2007, according to the study.

Among segments, J.D. Power said domestic brands lead rivals in cars and pickups, while foreign brands lead in crossovers, SUVs and vans.  Ford -- with 12 models ranked among the top three in their respective segments -- was largely responsible for Detroit's showing in the latest survey. The Ford brand, with less than one problem per new model, jumped from eighth place in 2009 to fifth this year -- its best showing ever. Ford is the highest-ranked nonluxury brand in the survey as well.  Overall, GM's initial quality slipped, with all four brands below the industry average, though the automaker had 10 models ranked in the top three of their respective segments. Buick, with 114 problems per 100 models, was the only GM brand to improve in the survey. J.D. Power said GM was hurt by the launch of several new models such as the Cadillac SRX, Buick LaCrosse, and Chevrolet Equinox and Camaro.  Chrysler's four brands all improved but still fell below the industry average, although the new Ram truck brand scored just below the industry average.  Industry slips - Overall for 2010, new-vehicle quality slipped industrywide to 109 problems per 100 models from 108 in 2009. The results are based on a J.D. Power survey of 82,000 new-vehicle buyers after 90 days of ownership.  A big reason for the slight drop in industry quality was Toyota Motor Corp.'s Toyota brand, which slipped below the industry average for the first time, to 21st place, with 117 problems reported per 100 models. The publicity surrounding sudden acceleration in several Toyota models was top-of-mind for many new owners of the brand's vehicles, J.D. Power said.  "Clearly, Toyota has endured a difficult year," said Dave Sargent, vice president of global vehicle research at J.D. Power.  Overall, Japanese brands averaged 108 problems per 100 models surveyed, a tie with U.S. domestic brands. South Korean brands averaged 111 problems and Europeans 114 problems.  BMW's Mini was the most improved brand, and the Ford Explorer Sport Trac was the most improved model. Overall, 18 brands improved and 15 brands declined in the survey.

Detroit showing - For Detroit automakers, the results contrast sharply with a year ago, when the bankruptcies of GM and Chrysler underscored longtime consumer perceptions about the quality of domestic brands.  "This year may mark a key turning point for U.S. brands as they continue to fight the battle against lingering negative perceptions of their quality," said Sargent. "Achieving quality comparability is the first half of the battle. Convincing consumers -- particularly import buyers -- that they have done this is the second half."
The quality of new or revamped models continued to improve in 2010, led by product launches from Ford, Honda, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. In the past, new models, on average, experienced substantially more quality problems than carryover models.   But in its latest survey, J.D. Power said more than a half of all models launched during the 2010 model year performed better than their respective segment averages.
At the same time, the initial quality of carryover and refreshed models fell in 2010.   At the top Porsche AG, which launched the four-door Panamera, was the top-ranked brand, with 83 problems per 100 models surveyed. It was followed by Acura, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Ford. Honda, Hyundai, Lincoln, Infiniti and Volvo also finished above the industry average.  Last year, Lexus topped the survey with 84 problems per 100 models. Porsche and Lexus have led the survey for the past six years.  At the bottom of the survey, with 170 problems per 100 models, was Land Rover. Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, Mini, Jaguar and Dodge also placed near the bottom.  Sargent said the industry has nailed "the oily parts" of the car and truck, with engine, transmission and chassis problems all but extinct. But new technologies such as Bluetooth, navigation and cameras continue to stymie automakers and consumers.  "The industry is still struggling to seamlessly integrate these features in a way that does not frustrate consumers," Sargent said. "It can be anything from a voice recognition system that fails to recognize commands or a bad sensor that monitors tire pressure."  2010 IQS Nameplate Ranking  Problems per 100 vehicles:

The Gresham Community Effect

Add either of these two lines if you have room for this on one line.

Thank you for making the Gresham Area a better place.  We are lucky in East County to have such strong Chambers of Commerce with our cities that support non-profits.  The Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce has all three charities listed in their membership directory and supports each charity greatly throughout the year.  When you have a need for automotive repair or service please consider Gresham Ford.  Bess Wills the General Manager instituted a three prong tithe program years ago.  When you purchase parts or service from Gresham Ford they will donate 10% of your purchase to the non-profit or charity of your choice including the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce or even the Community Effect.  All you have to do is ask our cashier at the time of payment and she will allocate the tithe.  When you purchase a vehicle just let the salesperson know on your way out and Gresham Ford will donate $100 to the church or charity of your choice.  The third way that Gresham Ford contributes to the community is through gift certificates sales.  Contact Annette Wetzel-Ramirez the Community Relations Manager  for more information.  Without the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce none of this giving or community spirit would be possible.

Yes, there have been times in its history where change and innovation was led by a pony.  Today the new 2011 Mustang is the finest of thoroughbreds and leading the pack in new technology. Starting at $22,995
the Mustang offers 305 horsepower with a six-speed transmission while offering 31MPG on the highway. (According to fueleconomy.gov) You also have the choice of a convertible, traditional hardtop coupe or a glass top roof. The glass roof is like having the biggest sunroof possible. Ford engineers have tweaked the suspension to provide the power and control you can only appreciate on one of those tight twisty trips on the scenic highway through the Gorge.  In short, the new 2011 Ford Mustang has the best mileage rating in history as well as 305 HP in a V-6. The Gresham Ford family encourages you to “Try Local First” and support our local economy. If you are in need of automotive service or are purchasing a new vehicle - PLEASE – do it locally, even if you don’t do it with us. 41 Cents Spent Locally Each Week Can Create
21 Jobs! It is estimated that $1 Million in sales equates to 21 jobs.  There are 46,296 households in East
County. When you divide the number of households by one million dollars in sales that gives us the magical dollar amount $21.60 per household annually.  Finally divide $21.60 by 52 weeks which gives us 41 cents per household per week to create 21 jobs. You can make a difference in your community 41 cents at a time.

Now that I have talked you into buying a new Ford Mustang locally, you’ll need somewhere to cruise.  So start Saturday, July 17th at the Troutdale Summerfest, the parade is at 11:00 a.m. with fun and booths continuing until 5:00 p.m. After you enjoy your candy from the parade spend the other half of the day at the ArtWalk in Historic Downtown Gresham with over 100 Gallery quality vendors. Not that these aren’t great events in their own right, but experiencing them in a Mustang will only magnify the experience.
