Keeping Safe this Winter on the Road

The wet rainy and sometimes icy northwest weather has fallen upon the Portland Metro area.  Whether that means black ice and school closures or just torrential downpours and a nasty wind we all need to guard against the weather when driving.  The suggestions below is one way to help keep you and your family safe this holiday season.
Quick Lane Inside Gresham Ford OPEN UNTIL MIDNIGHT

The first and foremost concern is to make sure that your car, truck or SUV is running smoothly.  Gresham Ford knows that you are busy especially during the holiday season.  Remember that our Service Department is Open 7am to midnight weekdays and Saturday 8am to 4pm for your convenience.  Gresham Ford may be a Ford Dealership but we service ALL Makes and ALL Models - that means your vehicle too!  Because we service all makes and and models our technicians are more trained and certified than almost any other shop in town.  Diesel, gas or electric engines are our speciality with our Senior Master Certified Technicians on staff and ready to make your car, truck or SUV ready for winter.

Gresham Ford Sells Studded Tires
Unfortunately even if your vehicle is in fabulous shape, you should be prepared - just in case something happens in your travels.  Below is a list of tips and items you should keep in your vehicle - just in case.  Some of the items seem obvious but they are all worth mentioning.

  • Don't allow your gas tank to get below a half a tank of fuel.  If you are stranded on the highway you want to have more than enough gas to keep you nice and toasty.  This will also help to avoid gas line freeze ups.
  • Keep a first aid kit, shovel, broom and ice scraper, sand or kitty litter to provide traction, jumper cables, warning devices (like flares or triangles), a cell phone with charger, blankets, and enough food and water for everyone who’s travelling. Any medicine should be brought along as well.  Just imagine what you would need if you had to send 6 to 10 hours in your vehicle, then you will always be over-prepared.
  • Avoid driving when you are fatigued.
  • Check to ensure your tires are properly inflated.
  • DO NOT use cruise control when driving on slippery surfaces
  • Make Sure Your Battery is Up to Snuff and Charged  (Gresham Ford offers Battery Testing Free of Charge)
  • As Oregonians we all know this but keep your windshield wipers in good working order.  If you hate installing them, no problem, Gresham Ford will install them for you at no extra charge.
If you ever have any questions about getting ready for a road trip feel free to come in and ask.  Gresham Ford is OPEN 7am to midnight Monday thru Friday and 8am to 4pm on Saturday.  Stay warm and safe this holiday season.

0% Financing on the 2014 Ford Edge has arrived!

Gresham Ford is excited to share that 0% financing has returned to the Portland area and the 2014 Ford Edge.  The Edge offers a four-model lineup, including Sport, which features standard 22" polished aluminum wheels with black spoke accents as shown below.  The 2014 Edge Sport also features a 3.7L Ti-VCT V6 engine with 280 lb.-ft. of torque.

This Ford Edge showcases the zippy and fun to drive 3.7L Ti-VCT V6.  The zippy fun drive is no surprise when you take into account the 305 horsepower @ 6500 rpm and 280 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000 rpm.  Don't worry Ford Motor Company does love the planet and has made many advances in fuel economy and exhaust limiting technology.  The aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff (ADFSO) helps maximize fuel efficiency.  The twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) provides power when and where you need it and adds to the driving experience in the Edge Sport.  The smart charging alternator and electronic throttle control (ETC) help to make the Edge even more efficient in operation.  But let's just say something goes wrong with you vehicle and you are stranded in the middle of the desert - Ford thought of that too.  The fail-safe engine cooling system ensures that you can limp along to the next mechanic and not get stranded in the desert.

The strong, yet lightweight die-cast aluminum block adds to the quality and efficiency of the Edge Sport.  The lightweight aluminum cylinder heads with 4 valves per cylinder and forged-steel, fully counterweighted crankshaft ensure that this car will outlast many others.  The engine has been paired with the 6-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission with paddle operation.  Again I can't stress enough how fun this car is to drive.

To schedule your own test drive visit Gresham Ford at 1999 East Powell Blvd in Gresham or call 503-665-0101 or visit us online at www.GreshamFord.com.

Tips to Lower Your Auto Insurance

Auto insurance is an important protection that is required by state law. It can also be a costly expense, especially if you have teenage drivers on your policy. However, there are some steps you can take to try to save on your auto insurance costs.
Combine your policies
Insurance companies typically offer discounts when you bundle more than one policy. Find out how your insurance costs may change if you combine your auto, home, life and other policies through one company. Remember that combining your policies may make it more complicated to switch companies later, so you may want to shop around before making a decision.
Shop around for a lower price
Getting quotes from different insurance policies can be a good way to find lower premiums. Most companies can offer a quote over the phone or online, but it's important that you compare the same information. Be sure that you are requesting the same deductible and level of coverage at each company and ask which discounts have been applied to create the quote.
Choose new cars carefully
Adding or replacing a car on your insurance policy will change your premiums. When shopping for a new car, ask your insurance agent for a quote on how much your policy might change. You should be able to get an estimate for the change if you know the make, model and year of the different cars you are considering.
Ask about additional discounts
Insurance companies may offer discounts for more than safe driving. There may be discounts based on age, retirement status or the length of time you've held the policy. Students may qualify for discounts if they earn good grades or if they have taken approved driver's education classes.
Carpool to drive less
Most auto insurance companies have rates that are based on your annual mileage. Driving your car less usually lets you earn a lower insurance rate. You can cut your annual mileage by carpooling to work a few days a week. Arranging to telecommute a portion of the week can also significantly lower your annual mileage.
Increase your deductible
Raising your deductible may be the easiest way to lower your annual auto insurance costs, but it does come with some risk. A higher deductible means you will be paying more in the event of a car accident, so weigh your safe driving record against the risk.
While auto insurance is a necessary expense, these simple tips may help you save money on your annual premiums.

4th of July Sales Event was made for the F-150 at Gresham Ford

The F-150 has dominated the American truck market for decades and it doesn't look like that will change anytime soon.  The Ford half ton truck has a wide model lineup that serves a multitude of applications with its wide selection.  The STX trim is now offered in both a 4x2 and 4x4 with 145" wheel base on the crew cab model.
F-150's on Sale at Gresham Ford Now

The performance and handling of the F-150 is legendary and made possible with its 3.73 electronic-locking rear differential that is available or you can choose the limited (3.55 electronic-locking rear differential is standard).  Comfort and convenience was far from overlooked when designing the F-150
Ford has provided an electronic-locking rear differential on the new F-150 trucks.  The electronic-locking rear differential is a low speed traction device, and the 2H and 4H disengage speeds are set considering vehicle stability in low slippery conditions with the system engaged.  This is important to many of the Portland area truck buyers because of the mud and rain we endure being Oregonians.  When the electronic-locking rear differential is operating at speeds are higher in 4L in order to provide optimum rear traction to the customer at all times.  The base F-150 can achieve 60+ mph in 4x4 Low; it is a common misconception that speeds of 60+ mph cannot be achieved in 4x4 Low, but they can. It is up to the driver whether or not they want to go that fast in 4x4 Low
The standard F-150 6-speed automatic transmission is designed and built with the ability to adapt operating calibrations to meet the needs of the driver and to help provide consistent and durable shifts during the life of the vehicle. Most transmission calibration adjustments are made during the first few times the vehicle is driven and that the driver may notice harsher transmission shifts during this time. This is normal and is the way the transmission learns and adapts to the driver’s habits and maintains optimal transmission shift point settings.

We know that Gresham and Portland residents want the F-150 because it gets the job done and makes you comfortable while its doing it.  For more information about the F-150 and how it operates feel free to contact and Product Specialist at Gresham Ford, 503-665-0101 or stop by 1999 East Powell Blvd in Gresham.
Contact Gresham Ford for 4th of July Sales Event Information

Ford is also offering some great additional rebates for the 4th of July weekend.  These will most likely be the best offers until the end of the model.  Contact Gresham Ford now for complete details and qualifications about the truck you are most interest in.

Ford's 2015 Transit van will carry paint with improved durability

2015 Transit - It's Bigger than Your Business Card

Gresham Ford was informed today that the 2015 Transit work van will retain 90 percent of its gloss for four years when ordered in white. When the first Transit vans arrive in June, they will have a new two-wet monocoat paint process developed by the automaker and its paint suppliers. Ford tested the paint for its resistance to chipping and scratching, pollutants and sun exposure to ensure that it will hold up to Commercial Customer usage. Advanced weathering testing indicates that paint applied with the two-wet technology retains 90 percent of its gloss at four years in service compared to 1 percent gloss retention for paint applied using a conventional monocoat process.   The two-wet monocoat process uses a primer coat that requires a few minutes of open-air drying time before the color coat is applied. The color coat is formulated with the same appearance and protection properties of the clear coat, which eliminates the need for a separate clear coat.

The new paint procedure is being used for white vehicles, which account for 80 percent of Ford Transit production at Kansas City Assembly Plant. As each color must be developed uniquely for the two-wet monocoat process, other colors will be considered based on demand. A conventional three-wet process of primer, base coat, and clear coat remains in use for metallic-colored vehicles.

For more information about the 2015 Transit or Transit Connect contact a Gresham Ford Commercial Account Manager at 503-665-0101 or 2173 E Powell in Gresham Oregon.  Remember the Transit is now available with two different lengths and three different heights.

2015 F-150 has Uncompromising Durability

Ford designers and engineers are committed to continuing the F-150 legacy of quality, reliability
and durability. For 2015, the F-150 not only fulfills that promise of being Built Ford Tough®, we’re taking it
to a whole new level. How? With an all-new high-strength steel frame and high-strength military-grade
aluminum alloy body.  Yes, you heard that right. Aluminum AND steel … combining the best of both materials for the toughness - that only Ford can deliver.  Gresham Ford is excited about bringing the best selling truck for over 37 years to the Portland Metro area.
2015 Aluminum F150 from Gresham Ford

The all new F150 offers a new high strength steel frame but bringing the performance of an aluminum body.  In designing the backbone of the 2015 F-150, Ford engineers accounted for every detail in building strength and removing weight. Why is that a big deal? Here’s why - The more high-strength steel than the previous model has been designed to be the strongest F-150 frame ever.  Even more than previous years this Ford work truck has even more impressive ground clearance while the frame is constructed using high-strength steel and fully boxed with through-welded crossmembers.

The all new snazzy Military Grade Aluminum Alloy Body is sure to impress with fuel economy due to the lighter weight.  It's easy to see why the F150 has been the best selling work truck in Gresham and surrounding Portland for over 37 years.  Ford engineers have utilized military-grade aluminum alloy in a full-size pickup truck because it makes this already great work truck even better.  This is the stuff fighter jets are made of — it stands up to the most extreme conditions and demanding situations this planet can dish
out. The advanced high-strength military-grade aluminum alloy is specially heat-treated and gauged to take all the abuse that a work truck must endure.  The aluminum is extremely strong for its weight. It’s strong enough to resist dents, dings and rust.  Weight is important for fuel economy among other things and coupled with the Eco-Boost engine is sure to impress with increased towing and payload capacities as well.

Ford has BUILT TOUGH and test the new 2015 F150 TOUGH.  The 2015 F-150 frame and body
have been designed and will be tested for over 10 million miles to surpass the legendary Built Ford Tough standards for durability, strength and quality.

When it comes to truck engines, there’s no room for “one size fits all.” That’s why the all-new F-150 offers choice, so owners can build their truck with the engine that’s just right for the job.  For 2015, the F-150 adds two all-new engines to the lineup, helping to continue the impressive F-150 powertrain story. The
F-150 engine lineup includes:

• New 3.5L V6 Ti-VCT
• New 2.7L EcoBoost® V6 with Auto Start-Stop technology

• 3.5L EcoBoost V6
• 5.0L V8 FFV

Ford Work Truck POWER + EFFICIENCY is brought to you by Gresham Ford Fleet.  The 2015 F-150 builds on the proven reputation of the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine, introducing a second EcoBoost engine into the truck lineup — the 2.7L EcoBoost V6. The engine block of the 2.7L EcoBoost consists of compacted graphic iron, the same material used in the proven engine block of the 6.7L Power Stroke® V8 turbo diesel. Like the 3.5L EcoBoost, the 2.7L is tuned specifically for truck applications — and features a lightweight compact design — to deliver an impressive combination of power, capability and efficiency. Remember for more information you can always call or stop by Gresham Ford.

PTO and why you want it on your Work Truck

For over a century it was widely accepted that diesel engines were loud, noisy machines.  Adding a Power Take-Off (PTO) with its gears and hydraulic system seemed to amplify the rumbling sound of machinery at work.  Noisy engines and equipment were long considered normal by-products of work and construction sites, but governments in North America have been enacting laws to regulate the idling of diesel engines and help control noise pollution.  Portland Oregon is no exception when demanding cleaner quieter work trucks.  The Ford 6.7L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel has many enhancements ( two stage combustion, structural integrity of the block, single turbocharger mounted to the engine block, etc.) for Noise?Vibration?Harshness improvements over the prior 7.3L diesel engine.  For that part, Chelsea Products division of Parker Hannifin must consider the noise characteristics of each new PTO design in addition to torque and speed requirements.  While we're on the topic of specifications, the pump flows up to 25.1 gallons per minute at 1200 engine RPM, providing 200 lb. ft. of torque (not coincidentally that PTO torque limit for a 6.7 diesel engine.) The goal is to achieve top-notch performance, yet so quiet that people will not be aware of the PTO from hearing it.

Features an output linked directly to the engine crankshaft providing “live” PTO operation anytime the engine is running, regardless of vehicle speed.  Provides the capability to power PTO-driven accessories, such as dump bodies, sprayer pumps, generators, salt spreaders and snowplows, with maximum flexibility.  Upfitter switches may be used as PTO control switches.  For more information contact Gresham Ford Fleet at 503.669.5343.
