What's at the 2017 Portland Auto Show

The reviews are in and the Portland Auto Show is worth the price of admission.  Ford has brought some of the best selling cars in America and even the new Ford Eco Sport.

2017 Ford Escape at the Portland Auto Show
You can visit the Portland Auto Show at the Oregon Convention Center January 26th to Sunday January 29th.  10am to 10pm Thursday to Saturday and 10am to 7pm on Sunday.  Admission is $12 for adults, and $7 for kids 7 to 12 years old.  Kids under 6 are free.

2017 Ford Escape exterior view at the Portland Auto ShowThe Ford Escape that is being presented this year has the unique black exterior details including the wheels, roof rack, grille insert and side mirrors.  This is a preferable alternative to those who chrome details don't stir the soul.  You can pile the whole family into the Escape to make sure it fits and get a chance to ask questions with many Ford Product Specialists on hand - even a few from Gresham Ford

2017 Ford Edge at the Portland Auto Show

Another SUV shown off this year is the 2017 Ford Edge that showcased an amazing bold design that really grabs your attention.  You have a compelling choice of three engines to meet every Portlanders needs.  One you climb behind the wheel at the Convention Center you will find yourself surrounded with technology that make driving a pleasurable experience again.  The voice activated next generation Sync Hands Free technology allows you to access navigation, change the radio station and use the phone all hands free.  We wouldn't want anyone getting a ticket now.
2017 Ford Transit Full Size Work Van

The Ford Transit is the work van that Dodge Sprinter owners have been waiting for.  This is the same van that dominates markets overseas and in Europe because of it's undeniable reliability.  This work van is just as big and tall as the Sprinter but without all the problems.  The Gresham Ford Fleet department has switched many business owners over to the new full size Ford Transit and they are very happy with the reduced cost of operation and maintenance required. With three different roof heights and two different wheel bases not to mention many different window and door configurations - this is the work van you have been wanting.
Interior view of the 2017 Ford Transit Passenger Wagon
Even I was a little surprised about the amount of traffic that wanted to see this van up close and personal.  Ford brought the passenger van to the Auto Show this year and as you can see this 6'3" man (I asked) has lots of room to walk around inside and there's still room for luggage.

Our Fleet Managers have had a number of hotels and taxi companies purchase these vehicles because of their superior room and again reduced overall vehicle expense.  Did we already mention the Transit is less expensive than the Dodge Sprinter?

But if work vans are what gets your blood rushing Ford also brought out the much anticipated 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 with the 5.2L V8 engine that provides 526 horsepower and 429 pound feet of torque.  That's more than enough power for anyone to get into trouble.  Ford Performance even added more standard features like Track Package; it's standard now.

There is also a drive simulator, just like last year but the lines appear to be shorter.  Like we said there is a lot to keep your attention this year.

So if you aren't planning on visiting the Portland Auto Show you may still be interested in what the new 2018 Ford Ecosport looks like.  It's smaller than the Escape but appears to have the same height clearance.

2018 Ford EcoSport at the Portland Auto Show

It's proportioned a little differently than the C-Max and a bit larger in our opinion.  It is very similar with its rounded corners and larger bold grille.

2018 Ford EcoSport Passenger Side View

Ford hasn't released pricing yet but we are eager to get more information.  This is a very appealing compact SUV that would compete well with the Kia Soul and the like.

2018 Ford EcoSport Drivers Side View

Maybe I'm just reading too much into the styling but it looks like a zippy little SUV.  The Escape is an incredibly versatile vehicle and the Eco-Sport appears that it will have the same 60 40 split 2nd row bench seat allowing many configurations to accommodate bikes, dogs and strollers.
2018 Ford Eco Sport Rear View

Many parents really like the EscapeFlex and Explorer because it is a lateral movement to get your kids into their car seats. Back pain and discomfort are never fun but when you have little wiggly ones and groceries it's even worse.  We think the Ford EcoSport will be a popular affordable SUV option for those Oregonians who want AWD at an affordable price.

Five Reasons You Should by a new Ford F-150 NOW

Ford F150 for Sale at Gresham Ford
Here is a down and dirty list of reasons why you should just now and buy that Ford truck you have been eyeing all year.

#5 - POWER: No matter who you are or how you drive, everyone loves having power beneath their feet especially when merging onto interstate 84.  The 2017 F-150 equipped with the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine provides 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft. of torque.  Ford Engineers have calibrated this truck specifically for truck applications - that means this is the work truck you have always wanted.  There is a reason that the F-150 is the best selling truck for 40 years in a row - it gets the job done!
#4 - Fuel Efficiency: The Ti-VCT (Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing) engine provides outstanding MPG plus has been paired with Ford exclusive technology like aggressive deceleration fuel shut-off (ADPSO) and Active Grille Shutter System.  The active grille shutter system automatically opens and closes shutters to help maximize aerodynamic efficiency of the grille opening and to help maintain ideal engine operating temperature.  The shutters adjust to 16 different positions in order to maintain the ideal engine operating temperature.  All that means that when you drive the RWD automatic Select Shift 2.7L EcoBoost V6 F-150 you get 19MPG in the city like driving downtown Portland and 26 MPG when driving exclusively on the highway like interstate 5 and 22 MPG combined when you drive everywhere.
2017 F-150 Pro Trailer Backup Assist
#3 - Pro Trailer Backup Assist: Now I don't know about you but backing up is not my strong suit and when you add a trailer my abilities go downhill fast.  Once again Ford has your back and provides a dial on the center stack instrument panel that works with the rear view camera and display screen in your center stack.  All you do is control the gas and brake and the truck controls the steering wheel.  This option is available with any of the trailer tow packages but is not compatible with gooseneck hitch systems.  Sorry gooseneck people, you are still on your own however, the rear view cameras are still really nice when trying to line up your truck to the trailer; even if you do have to work the steering wheel.
2017 F150 2.7L EcoBoost V6 Durability Testing
#2 - Durability: Ford is known for being #BuiltTough and aren't ready to let go of that reputation. The Ford Engineers submitted the #2017FordF150 to extreme thermal cycling at peak power all the way from 25F to 230 degrees Fahrenheit.  The engine was also run at peak torque and peak power and high engine speeds for 17 straight days.  They started and stopped the engine 240,000 times; that took over 917 hours.  These engineers are dedicated.  Not lastly but the last test I will share with you is the the trailer tow cycles over the entire engine speed band up to 6500 rpm.  Needless to say this engine has been tested and pushed to its limits so that you can be confident that your work truck will keep you on the road where you belong.
The #1 reason to get a new F150 with the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine is dollars and cents.  There are three different options that all provide phenomenal savings making this a fantastic time to purchase a truck at Gresham Ford.

2017 Ford Fusion Review

2017 Ford Fusion Exterior Photo
The Ford Fusion has been redesigned 2017 and you will notice the refined lines and updates in technology.

Craftsmanship and dedication to smart technologies has driven Ford to create a truly great car.  For the 2017 model year there are five models available:

  • Fusion S with a 6 speed select shift automatic transmission with rotary gear shift dial
  • Fusion SE with available enhanced active park assist system
  • Fusion Titanium with available intelligent access with push button start and remote start
  • Fusion Platinum with available all-wheel drive and inflatable rear safety belts.
  • Fusion Sport offers a 2.7L EcoBoost V6 all-wheel drive  features with continuously controlled damping suspension for the smoothest ride.
There is a 3 engine lineup with the 1.5L EcoBoost, 2.0L EcoBoost and the 2.5L i-VCT that delivers both power and performance.

The 1.5L Eco Boost inline four cylinder engine provides 181 horsepower and 185 lb ft of torque and delivers a broad flat torque curve with the power that you want when driving on Oregon highways.  The aluminum engine block and cylinder head help to reduce weight and aid fuel efficiency.  Ford has also engineered a water cooled charged air cooler that provides an even better feed of air into the engine in order to provide more power with less fuel.  The cast-iron crankshaft and balance shaft is belt driven and primary to the drive system.  This system includes a camshaft drive system that contributes to the reduced noise and vibration that you will definitely enjoy.  The lightweight composite intake manifold helps to reduce vehicle weight and improve efficiency.  Dual overhead camshaft (DOHC) is also made of lightweight aluminum cylinder heads with 4 valves per cylinder that helps to further improve the engine breathing and performance.

2017 Ford Fusion Transmission Dial
The 2.0L EcoBoost I-4 engine provides 245 horsepower at 5500 RPM and 275 lb. ft of torque at 3000 RPM again delivering the broad flat torque curve that provides the powerful smooth drive that Fusion has become known for.  The fast acting gooseneck turbo connects directly to the exhaust manifold and funnels the exhaust energy at the turbine for quicker response.  The EcoBoost technology withstands higher temperatures for increased durability and reliability, thanks to the cast stainless steel turbine housing.  Ford has also engineered a oil lubrication system and water cooling in order to assist extending the long life of your Ford Fusion.
2017 Ford Fusion Available at Gresham Ford

The 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine produces 325 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 380 lb.ft of torque at 3000 rpm.  The Ford engine logic system adjusts operating parameters on the fly to provide enhanced efficiency and performance.  We think you will find the electronic throttle control (ETC) helps deliver seamless and consistent response from your Fusion engine.  The parallel twin turbochargers are water-cooled to prevent "coking" and operate at a maximum of 147 psi of boost.  The lightweight and compact design helps to deliver an impressive combination of power and efficiency.  The compacted graphite iron cylinder block helps save weight while providing strength where it's needed most for durability.

For even better MPG check out the Fusion Energi that is a plug in AND gas car.

Ford has worked hard to engineer a car that is truly fuel efficient and fun to drive.  One of the technologies that help to drive the efficiency of the Ford Fusion is the Aggressive Deceleration Fuel ShutOff system, that deactivates the fuel injectors when the Fusion is decelerating or coasting while normal engine operation is maintained.  All this technology is to help you get the best MPG possible.  This technology is automatic, you don't have to do a thing but drive how you would normally and understand that your car will get very quite at stop lights.  Normal fuel delivery resumes as soon as you reach a low speed or when you accelerate.  You will find that the Ford Fusion maintains excellent drivability by the software that continues to integrates this technology with the powertrain operation.
